Welcome to The Slate 🏈
Hey — thanks for being here on day one.
The Slate exists for one reason: you shouldn't need fifteen browser tabs open to know what's going on before kickoff. Every issue, we'll boil down the news, storylines, and fantasy angles that actually matter, so you can close the laptop and just watch the games.
What to Expect Every Issue
The story of the week — the one thing everyone will be talking about, explained fast.
Fantasy Corner — waiver targets, lineup questions, and roster-building advice you can actually use.
Quick Hits — the smaller news items worth knowing, without the scroll.
The Calendar: Roster Cuts Are Almost Here
We're in the final stretch of the preseason. Teams have to trim their rosters down to the regular-season limit in the coming days, which means the next week is when depth charts actually start to look real. Camp hype is one thing — a 53-man roster is another.
If you've been holding off on locking in your draft rankings or your season-long roster plans, this is the week to keep an eye on things. Practice-squad eligibility, surprise cuts, and last-minute trades all tend to cluster right before that deadline, and they can quietly reshape a depth chart that looked settled a week ago.
Fantasy Corner
Re-check your bench depth. A committee backfield or a crowded WR room can flip fast once cuts hit — don't draft last week's depth chart.
Watch beat-writer camp reports. Snap counts and reps in the final preseason week tend to be more predictive than anything earlier in camp.
Don't overreact to one preseason stat line. Backups padding numbers against other backups is not a signal — role and opportunity are what to track.
Quick Hits
Final preseason games wrap up this week across the league.
Roster-cut deadline lands right before Week 1 prep kicks into high gear.
Waiver wires reset once rosters are official — worth checking who's now clearly a starter.
That's issue #1. We'll be back in your inbox soon with more — and if The Slate is useful to you, forwarding it to a friend is the best way to help it grow.
